To improve Dick's ratings, a sidekick (Danny Taylor played by Steve Lawrence) is added on the show, which proves too successful. Dick, suffering from a cold, fears that he will be replaced. When Dick's doctor tells him to stay home to recover, Danny fills in for him. Carl Reiner appears as himself.
